| An information file is provided in the Gite
with full details and pamphlets of things to see and do in the area.
However, to whet your appetite, we have provided you with a few snippets
of information below:
Food & Shops

The village market in Ste Livrade (which is only a few minutes by
car) is held every Friday where the local farmers sell their fruit
and vegetables, wines, cheeses, flowers and loads of other homemade
goodies! The town of Villeneuve, which is approximately a 15 minute
drive away, holds their market on a Saturday morning in the square
- also highly recommended!! Villeneuve also has a variety of wonderful
little boutique shops to browse through.
For everyday grocery shopping there are a number of supermarkets
in the nearby area. For convenience there is a small supermarket
located in Ste Livrade. The larger Auchan hypermarket which has
an incredible fish section is located on the road to Villeneuve,
a mere 10 minute drive away.
Restaurants

There are a number of excellent restaurants in the area providing
superb dishes of salads, fish, steak, cheeses and desserts at reasonable
prices - recommendations are provided in our information file.
Places to see

The countryside is one of gentle rolling hills with small farms
and villages nestling between woods, pastures and arable fields.
You can spend a leisurely few days visiting the pretty bastides
towns such as Montflanquin, Villereal, Pujols and Penne D'Agenais
or visit the local wine districts which include Buzet, Duras, Cahors
and Bordeaux, all within an hour's drive of Lacombe. The beautiful
medieval town of Saint~Emilion is located north-east of Bordeaux
and is certainly worth a visit, as is Landes on the Atlantic coast,
where you can climb the highest dune in Europe.
Sporting Activities

There are two or three excellent golf courses in the region.
Castelnaud, approximately 15 minutes drive away, has a championship
18 hole golf course with a driving range, putting green and Pro
shop. A nine hole golf course is situated near Tombeboeuf, which
also has a practice area and Pro shop. Both golf courses have golf
clubs, trolleys and buggies available for hire.
Hikers are offered a wide range of possibilities, from registered
hiking trails and local trails that can take days to complete to
short circuits that can be hiked in a few hours or a day. The short
circuits take you through villages, rivers and hills and are ideal
for families.
Horse-riding is another wonderful way of discovering nature
and with three horse-riding centres in the area and numerous bridle
paths, Lacombe is ideally situated for horse-lovers.
The cycling trails often follow the pedestrian or horseback
trails, which allows for safe mountain biking. Pack a picnic lunch
and take the cycle route of the Lot valley which is 79.7km. It wends
its way along quiet roads, taking you through fortified towns to
picturesque villages, always nearby the banks of the Lot river,
alternatively just use the roads and explore at whim. We have two
mountain bikes available for your use and there is also a mountain
bike centre located in nearby Prayssas where you can hire bikes.
As mentioned previously, the river is full of fish, including
large Carp and Trout. A handy fishing shop is located in Ste Livrade,
which will supply you with all your needs.
Alternatively you can just while away the days lazing by the 8x4
metre pool recharging your batteries!
